ODM kicks off process of expelling Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda
Bondo Member of Parliament, Dr. Gideon
Ochanda was on Tuesday relieved of his position as the secretary of the Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM), Bondo sub-branch.
During a meeting chaired by Siaya senator Dr.
Oburu Oginga, members of the branch executive committee who met at the ODM
offices in Bondo resolved that Ochanda be expelled from the party and
his sponsorship to parliament withdrawn.
Reading the resolutions of the meeting, the vice chairman of the Bondo sub branch, George Ochieng Mawere said the legislator’s position will be taken over by the Yimbo East Member of the County Assembly, Francis Otiato.
Otiato said the law was clear on the
procedures to be taken to party members who go to bed with the opponents,
adding that the legislator has, through actions and body emotions resigned from
ODM.
“We are only endorsing what he has opted to
do” said Otiato adding that he was ready to take up the mantle bestowed upon
him.
Siaya senator, Dr. Oburu Oginga said ODM
cannot tolerate indiscipline within its rank and file and accused Dr. Ochanda
of stabbing their party leader from the back.
He said Kenyans must be wary of President
William Ruto’s advances to opposition legislators, adding that it was a
tactical move to kill democracy and have the country reverted back to the
single party era.
Dr. Oburu further condemned attempts by some
goons to disrupt the party meeting by hurling stones at them, adding that the
youth must not accept to be misused.
ODM top brass has in the past one week vowed
to punish its members of parliament who made a visit to statehouse last week.
Party leader, Raila Odinga over the weekend
while addressing mourners during the funeral of the late education cabinet
secretary, Prof. George Magoha in Yala termed the MPs as traitors who must
leave ODM.
