ODM condemns night raid at Senator Okiya Omtatah's home
According to reports, the premise was raided by unknown goons on Wednesday night seeking to know the senator's whereabouts.
ODM has therefore called for speedy investigations into the incident, noting that it poses a great danger to Kenyan leaders.
"Every Kenyan including leaders must be guaranteed their safety at all times. We call on the government to move quickly and investigate the claims," ODM said in a statement.
Narrating the ordeal, Omtatah intimated that the intruders harassed his relatives present for about an hour seeking more information about his location.
"We do not know who those people were but we suspect they were in the compound for some time because they claimed they knew the compound very well. I left home on Tuesday evening after a series of functions only to be called at 2 am to be told there were people in my compound looking for me," he told The Star.
"I do not meet anyone at night. Those who want to see me know they can see me during official working hours but not at night."
Local police officers who visited the home are investigating the matter.
The incident follows an attack by rowdy youth who stoned the Senator's car as he made his way towards the County Assembly offices on March 23, 2024.
Addressing the press, he accused Busia Governor Paul Otuoma of orchestrating the attack.
Omtatah argued that Otuoma attempted to intimidate him into withdrawing a lawsuit he had filed against the Governor in February.
"Kilichotendeka ni kinyume na sheria na haitanitisha. Nishaona makubwa kuliko haya, haitanitisha. Hawatanisimamisha," he said.
