OCS showing off firearm accidentally shoots bar attendant in Bomet
The officer, an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from Trans Nzoia County, was reportedly demonstrating the weapon's operation to a drinking companion when the firearm discharged, striking the bar attendant in the stomach.
The injured attendant was immediately rushed to Litein Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for a serious bullet wound.
According to Bomet County Deputy Police Commandant Jamleck Ngaruiya, officers from the Kapletundo Police Station responded to the incident, securing the area and taking statements from the pub owner and witnesses.
According to the police report, the officer was disarmed and taken into custody for interrogation. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The event has raised concerns over the handling of firearms by law enforcement officers, especially in informal and public settings.
