Nyanza leaders faulted for failing to address fishermen harassment during Museveni's visit
A section of the residents of Usigu Sub-county led by Mr. Fredrick Okore have blamed the leaders for failing to mention the cases of persistent harassment of Kenyan fishermen by Ugandan soldiers.
He says that during President Museveni’s visit for the just concluded Piny Luo Festival, he ought to have been told in the face to bring to an end, the persistent attacks and harassment of the Kenyan fishermen by Ugandan soldiers.
Okore, who spoke in Bondo town, lamented that numerous trips have been made to Uganda in vain, in efforts to find a lasting solution to the safety of Kenyan fishermen on Lake Victoria.
He complained that the leaders who have been going for such visits have never brought back any positive response, saying that those are some of the issues that resident Museveni ought to have been informed about.
The resident added that it is quite irritating that whereas the Ugandan nationals are usually free to fish and even trade openly on the Kenyan side, the situation is completely different with Kenyans who cross over to Uganda.
Okore has therefore castigated the leaders for burying their heads in the sand when they clearly know that there is a problem that needs to be solved.
