'Nyanza is ODM zone,' Migori Senator Eddy Oketch warns against UDA inroads
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has indicated that
the opposition will not allow the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to
penetrate the Nyanza region, which he termed as an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)
stronghold.
Oketch
said he acknowledges that Kenya is a multiparty democratic State, but that parties
have been formed regionally, hence they will not allow UDA to get into perceived
ODM party political zones like Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties.
“In
this country, there are regions that are UDA and there are those that are ODM.
Nyanza is an ODM region and we will not allow anybody who tries to bring something
which is not ODM,” he said.
The
Migori Senator said they are going to ensure that the Nyanza region remains an
ODM party stronghold.
He
said they have also embarked on a journey to revitalize the Raila Odinga-led opposition
party in Migori County and across other counties in the Nyanza region.
Oketch
further appealed to residents of Nyanza region to register as ODM members ahead
of the anticipated party grassroots election this year.
The lawmaker
said the ODM party is the party to watch in the next general election, and
therefore urged the people of Nyanza to remain solid behind the party.
