A family in
Nyasio in North Mugirango, Nyamira County, is living in fear following the
mysterious deaths of six of their kin in the last one year, five of them dying
in the last one month.
The latest
tragedy hit the family last week when Jane Nyaboke, 67, and two of her
daughters aged 39 and 45 went missing, and their bodies were found dumped in
separate thickets within the county, sparking fears that the family may be
targeted by persons with unknown motives.
The family
now wants the police to expedite investigations in to the killings, to
alleviate their fears.
For the sixth
time in less than a year, the family of Mzee Hamisi is yet again mourning the
deaths of their family members who died in mysterious circumstances.
A cloud of
fear, grief and uncertainty hang over this home yet again, as friends and
relatives yet again visit their home to offer condolences. it is a riddle that
has left many here racking their heads for answers that have so far eluded them.
Peter Moturi,
a relative, said: “In the past one year, watu wamekufa hapa sita, in one
month watu watano.”
Bilhar Kerubo, another relative,
added: “Hata naomba serikali itusaidie sasa, watu wanauliwa kama kuku.”
The latest
bereavement being that of a mother and her two daughters, whose deaths are yet
another piece of a puzzle that has left the village in shock.
Jane Nyaboke
and her daughter Edna left the family home to run errands, but when the sun set
they didn’t return home as expected.
The
following day, as the family mounted a search for the two, they were informed
that Jane's other daughter Lorna Kerubo had also gone missing. The bodies of
the tree women were found dumped in separate thickets within the county,
bringing to five the number of members from this family who have died in the
last one month.
Moturi stated:
“Nilienda mortuary nikapata ni kweli mama yangu na dadangu walikuwa wameaga.
Cousin yangu, cousin mwingine na mtoto wake…sasa ni mama yangu na dadangu wawili
wamekufa in a mysterious way.”
Fred,
another relative, said: “Mama na Edna walitoka hapa Monday kuenda kwa
shosho na hawakufika. Tuesday Lorna naye akatoka kwake akienda shughuli zake,
yeye pia hakupatikna.”
The family
has expressed fears that they may be targets of killing by unknown people who
seem keen on wiping out the entire family, even as they hit out at the police
for dragging their feet in unravelling the mystery.
Abdalla
Hamisi, a relative, said: ”Polisi hawafanyi kazi vile inatakikana maanake
hata kuna wenye wameuwawa hapa nyumbani na polisi hawafuati…wakifanya post-mortem
ni zero.”
