NTSA launches investigation into Eldoret-Webuye road accident that killed 8 people
National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has embarked
on a probe into the Sunday road carnage along Eldoret-Webuye road that led to the
death of eight and left others injured.
The accident which happened at Musembe area in Kakamega County involved a
trailer and a 14-seater matatu belonging to 2NK Sacco.
“As part of the Authority’s crash investigation function, a
technician team comprising of investigators, inspectors and representatives from
the National Police Service (NPS) were dispatched to the scene to undertake
investigations," NTSA said in a statement on Sunday.
“The scene has been documented to ascertain the cause of the
accident and issue appropriate recommendations.”
NTSA further hinted at taking necessary actions to the
parties found culpable especially the matatu Sacco which has since attracted a lot of blame.
“A comprehensive report is being prepared to guide
on the necessary actions to be undertaken against the Sacco,” stated the
Authority.
As the schools are set to re-open this week after the Christmas festivities, the Authority has implored all motorists to be vigilant while travelling to avert
road accidents.
“We urge all the motorists to be extra vigilant, cautious, be mindful of other road users as the festivities come to an end and our children resume school,” NTSA advised.
