A section of Northern Kenya leaders has called on security agencies to address the burgeoning cases of insecurity that are currently plaguing the region.

This comes after six people were killed and 11 others injured on Thursday last week following an attack on a vehicle en route to Badassa in Saku from Marsabit town.

The leaders; Isiolo Women representative Jaldesa Rehema, nominated Senator Falhada Imana and her nominated counterpart Naomi Wako specifically called on Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to quickly deploy a multi-agency team to prevent further loss of lives and damage to property.

“We urge the security team to bring to book the perpetrators, financiers, schemers and executors of these savage acts of violence,” the leaders said in a statement read by Senator Iman.

The trio of leaders also claimed that in the last one week, 8 people have been killed by bandits with security forces appearing to be overwhelmed by the attacks.

They consequently urged the youth to desist from using social media to endorse violence among communities.

“We note with concern the incitement on social media platforms particularly on Facebook by young people and we urge them to desist from this bad habit. We implore you to use social media to promote peace,” the leaders added.

On her part, Wako called on the national and county government of Marsabit and other stakeholders to move in and support all persons displaced as a result of the skirmishes.

“We urge all our county Governments and especially our Governors, please put aside your development projects for now, but concentrate and give attention on the killings that are happening and make sure that we give peace and stability to our people,” Wako said.
