North Eastern leaders want gov’t to create more constituencies, wards
The
leaders of Isiolo, Tana River and Marsabit counties are appealing to the
government for consideration of more constituencies and wards in the forthcoming
boundary review.
Speaking
on Sunday when they gathered to discuss issues affecting their communities,
they asked the government to consider the vastness of
the three counties.
“We
appeal for consideration for more constituencies and wards in the forthcoming
boundary review considering the vastness of our three counties,” Abdul Bahari,
a former CAS, said.
Led
by the Governor of Marsabit, Mohamud Ali, the leaders came to a resolution to
promote intra-county and inter-county peace and stability in order to promote peaceful
coexistence amongst the communities as well as build cohesion to foster
development in the three communities.
“The
leaders have appealed to Interior CS Kindiki because of the commitment of the
leaders to support us in ensuring that matters of security are taken seriously
so that we have a cohesive region going forward,” Governor Ali said.
The
meeting followed a charged political season that widened the rift between
communities residing in the three counties.
They
appealed to the government to enhance security in the region and in particular through
the National Population Register.
They
also asked the government to help them mitigate the effects of long drought
through restocking and livelihood diversification.
