Noordin
Haji was on Wednesday sworn in as the new Director-General of the National
Intelligence Service (NIS).
Haji took the oath of office at State House, Nairobi, at a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was among other government officials in attendance.
“I have full confidence that with
the experience you have gathered over the years, having worked in the
intelligence service for many years and in other senior government positions
such as the DPP, you have assembled knowledge and experience to be able to
discharge your responsibility,” Ruto said.
Parliament’s Defence and Foreign
Relations Committee on Tuesday approved Haji’s nomination, giving him the green
light to be sworn in and replace Philip Kameru who is set to retire after being
at the helm of NIS since September 2014.
Haji now returns to the NIS where
he previously served as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime
Unit.
