The government through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage is seeking to turn Nomiya Church headquarters in Rarieda sub-county into a religious tourism site.

Speaking when she visited the headquarters in Siaya County, Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza stated that the ministry intends to partner with the church to preserve its culture and history given that it was the first independent church in Africa.

The state will partner with the church to gazette the mausoleum and the cultural site that is at the Nomiya Church headquarters.

Malonza noted that the ministry is committed to open up the Western Kenya tourism circuit through promotion of religious tourism.

The tourism ministry has already started to map tourism sites across the country so that they can build a brand with religious tourism. This will have tourists visiting every part of Kenya and not only Mombasa and Maasai Mara.
