Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria now says that the National Youth Service's
(NYS) aim to recruit 15,000 servicemen in February will involve enlisting individuals
solely on their qualifications, devoid of any favouritism or corruption.
In a statement on
X on Wednesday, Kuria announced that successful candidates will subsequently be
posted in a public portal one hour after the exercise concludes.
“No one will have
a special list. Not the Director General, not myself as the Cabinet Secretary.
Not the President of the Republic of Kenya. Kila mtu ang'ang'ane kwa
uwanja," said Kuria.
"The only
connection you need is internet connection to read this message. All the youth
in this country deserve an opportunity. President William Ruto and I will give
this fair opportunity to all young people without fear or favour."
Early on
Wednesday, the CS announced that the nationwide recruitment exercise will take place
between February 5 and 9, 2024 in all sub-counties across
Kenya.
Those interested
must meet several requirements, among them a minimum of a D (plain) and above
in their KCSE exams.
Applicants must
fulfill various criteria, including being a Kenyan citizen and residing in the
relevant sub-county of application.
They should also
be aged between 18 and 24, possess original National ID and academic
certificates at the recruitment venue, hold a certificate of good conduct, be
prepared for medical check-ups during and after the recruitment exercise, be
willing to undergo rigorous physical training, and be ready to voluntarily
serve in any part of Kenya.
Successful
candidates will be directed when to report to NYS training colleges in Gilgil
and Naivasha.
