No one can come between me and Mt Kenya people, Ruto says

President William Ruto tours Igembe South, Meru County on April 2, 2025.
Speaking in Maua, Meru County on Wednesday, the president explained that his friendship with the region extends to two decades and cannot be broken by an individual.
"The friendship I have built with the region goes beyond 20 years. No one can come between me and the people of Mt Kenya," Ruto said.
He highlighted development projects within the region, citing that he would continue fulfilling his campaign pledges.
"Because you voted for me, I will keep working until you are amazed," he added.
Ruto was joined by leaders including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Tourism CS Rebecca Miano, ICT CS William Kabogo, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma among others.
During his address, Governor Mutuma requested the president to onboard former CSs Peter Munya and Mithika Linturi into his government.
In response, Ruto said, "We are already holding discussions and have a plan. Relax, I can assure you it is under control."
Ruto's response comes amid political tensions following Gachagua's impeachment and a recent purge of the latter's allies from key positions in Parliament.
This prompted Gachagua to rally his troops to oppose the current regime, citing unfufilled promises and a culture of lies.
Prior to Ruto's Mt Kenya visit, Gachagua told him to refrain from taking credit for former President Uhuru Kenyatta's projects in the region.
“As you come here, speak the truth. All these projects in the Mt Kenya region, it is former President Uhuru Kenyatta who initiated them. You have refused to finish them. None is yours. Do not dare lie to the people,” Gachagua said in Wangige, Kiambu County on March 31, 2025.
Ruto's weeklong trip marks his first visit to the region in nearly six months. He is expected to tour nine counties including Laikipia, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru and Kiambu.
Part of his itinerary includes inspecting key projects such as road infrastructure, affordable housing, fresh produce markets, last-mile electricity connectivity, water, and irrigation.
