‘No new assets,’ Tourism CS nominee Rebecca Miano says as net worth increases by Ksh.47M
Rebecca Miano, the Tourism Cabinet Secretary
(CS) nominee, has revealed her present net worth to be Ksh.444 million.
This marks a Ksh.47 million increase from the
Ksh.397 million she declared in 2022 when she was being vetted for the for East
Africa Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Development docket, a
position she only held for a year before being moved to the Trade ministry.
Appearing before the National Assembly's
Committee on Appointments for vetting on Saturday, Miano however noted that she
had not acquired any new assets since 2022, instead highlighting that her
properties' value had appreciated during the period.
"I have not increased the assets, what I
have done is to modestly revalue the properties, taking into account the
appreciation. It is unrealised but it is an effect of valuation to be on the
reasonable side of things," she said.
In 2022, Miano told the same committee
that her net worth had been acquired through investments in property in her
30-year career and ownership of two houses, one in Nairobi and the other in
Nyahururu.
“My financial net worth is Ksh.397 million. I
have a house in Nairobi, another back at home in Nairobi and the rest are
properties we (together with husband) have acquired over the last 30 years and
what I have shown now, the value is the current market value that has
appreciated over time,” she said then.
The lawyer went on to disclose that she also
owns three motor vehicles.
