Nelson Havi among 8 candidates shortlisted for Solicitor General position
In a notice issued on Friday by the Public Service Commission (PSC), Havi, who unsuccessfully contested for the Westlands MP seat in the August elections under the UDA party ticket, was shortlisted among seven other candidates for the position.
Other candidates include ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack John Mose, George Kithi who unsuccessfully vied for the Kilifi governor seat candidate and former Jubilee Party deputy executive director and head of legal and compliance MaryKaren Kigen-Sorobit
Beatrice Adhiambo Akuno, Paul Lilan, Beatrice Mugeni Meso and Stephen Ochieng Mallowah also made to the list.
They are now set to be interviewed by the commission’s panel on December 13th and 14th, 2022 at its headquarters in Nairobi.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Section 9 of the Office of Attorney-General Act No.49 of 2012 the Public Service Commission invited applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Solicitor-General in the print media and Commission’s website on 1st November 2022,” read a section of the statement by PSC.
"Following the conclusion of the exercise…shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Public Service Commission, Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi on the date and time indicated. Candidates should be at the venue at least fifteen (15) minutes before the starting time," PSC said in a public notice.
PSC also noted that 18 applicants had expressed their interest in the position during the advertisement last month.
If successful, Havi will take over from the outgoing Solicitor General Ken Ogeto whose term expires at the end of March 2023.
According to Kenyan Law, the Solicitor General assists the Attorney-General in the performance of his duties and is also responsible for the discipline of the State Counsel and other members of staff in the Office currently headed by AG Justin Muturi.
