Ndaragwa MP roots for one man-one vote-one shilling revenue system

Ndaragwa Member of Parliament George Gachagua

Ndaragwa Member of Parliament George Gachagua is rooting for a “one man-one vote-one shilling equitable distribution of resources.

The MP has underscored the need for the equitable allocation of revenues based on population saying the region produces over 30 per cent of the national revenue but always gets a low deal in the distribution of resources.

Leaders from Mt. Kenya region have also been seeking for a guaranteed minimum prices of tea, coffee, milk, green grams, and rice among other products produced in the region.

The MP spoke when he distributed bursary checks to needy learners from Kiriita, Leshau Pondo, and Shamata Wards worth over Kshs. 40 million.

He said such funds were not enough to cater for the increasing number of needy students in the region owing to the harsh economic times most families were facing due to drought, erratic rains, and high cost of living.

He noted that Ndaragwa constituency should also be classified as a hardship area since it shares the same climatic conditions with the neighbouring Laikipia County.

He said many government officers and teachers especially from the lower part of the constituency were seeking transfers to Laikipia in order to benefit from the hardship allowances as their neighbours, a matter that has a negative impact on education performance.

Gachagua says National Bureau of Statistics data, which forms the basis of the report classifying hardship areas and implemented by the government, has flaws especially on issues of boundaries that demarcate severe, moderate and non-hardship areas.
