NCIC summons Governor Natembeya over alleged threats towards his deputy Philomenah Kapkory

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya over ethnic contempt after it received complaints from his deputy Philomenah Bineah Kapkory.

According to a statement from NCIC Chairperson Rev. Samuel Kobia on Monday, Kapkory is alleging that she has been undergoing threats in line of her duty as Deputy Governor.

She says her trouble began when the Sabaot community proposed the creation of their own county. The petition, which was backed by Sabaot leaders and elders was however opposed by Governor Natembeya who termed the proposal as unfeasible.

In the matter, which she reported to NCIC, DG Kapkory claims that Natembeya told the Sabaot community to be content with the leadership positions they have in the county government and ditch the request to have their own county.

"He further went on to state that not even an inch of Trans Nzoia would be hived off to form another county, insinuating that the Sabaot are greedy," reads part of the statement.

Natembeya's remarks are said to have sparked ridicule against Kapkory across social media and other platforms.

Rev Kobia says the social media platforms where the attacks and hate messages were made include Bunge la Wananchi, Ubuntu Group, Endebess Development Forum, County of Trans Nzoia and Facebook.

NCIC now says they will be probing the matter in relation to Kapkory's complaints and the allegations meted on the Sabaot community.

Natembeya is now expected to appear before the commission on November 28, 2023 for questioning.
