Narok-based American philanthropist says her life is in danger
An American philanthropist and the director
of Maranapa Camps, Michelle Nirenstsein, has decried threats by an influential
businessman in Talek, Narok West, and is asking the government to intervene.
Speaking to the press, the philanthropist
questioned the said threats, noting that her projects benefit the community at
large.
“I hope this fight can stop so we continue
with the original vision to empower the disempowered. The important thing to
remember is I came here to leave a legacy for the Maasai people,” she said.
A former area Member of the County Assembly,
Dominique Ole Rakwa, termed the threats as an impediment to the community,
which benefits from the American’s help for women and police, asking those
involved to desist from being used.
"There are still some people who are
being used to taint her name and that is why as a community we have agreed today
that mambo ya kudhulumu Michelle ikomee kabisa," said Ole Rakwa.
"Tunashangaa mama kama huyu akilia
akitafuta usaidizi kwa serikali, kuna watu bado wanatumika kuchafulia huyu mama
jina ndo maana sisi kama community tumetokea kusema mambo haya yakome kabisa."
"We as women are calling for her
security because the children in this camp are ours and hatutaki kilio
hapa kwetu," Talek Women Group Chairperson Mary Naurori added.
The businessman is alleged to have previously
forcibly taken a car used to run community projects on the 11th of April this
year.
The incident was reported, with little effort
on the part of authorities to address the issue.
