Police in Nakuru
are searching for three armed robbers responsible for a series of violent
attacks across the county. Over the past week, five separate robberies have
been reported, resulting in three fatalities.
In the latest
incident on Wednesday night, a trader was injured and a Good Samaritan lost his life in Ngata.
Caroline Kwamboka,
a trader in the Arap Chumo area of Ngata, is recovering from head, neck, and
leg injuries sustained during a brutal robbery at her shop on Wednesday
night.
According to
Kwamboka, the assailants raided her shop minutes past 8p.m., demanded money,
and attacked her. They made away with Ksh.40,000.
Enoch Kipkoech, who
responded to Kwamboka's distress call, was shot and killed by the assailants.
This incident
follows similar attacks in the Pipeline and Ndege Ndimu areas last week, where
two individuals were killed.
"Sana sana ni
pesa wanatarget, walikuwa wamebeba gunia, wanatembea na confidence peacefully,
wako confident, it's like they know what they are doing, hakuna kitu
itawafanyikia," Nelly Sigilai, a resident in Ngata, stated.
Nakuru County
Commissioner Loyford Kibaara attributed the surge in robberies to a
well-organized syndicate.
He revealed that
two suspects were already in custody, and ballistic analysis will be conducted
on spent cartridges recovered from the crime scenes.
"Why this
energy and lack of fear… hii bunduki ni kubwa, sio ndogo. The explanation is
inabebwa na sack," said Kibaara.
The incident,
marked by its bold execution, has highlighted a disturbing trend: the growing
use of firearms in crimes that were once classified as petty.
