Nakuru family at pain after 9-month-old baby stolen
CCTV footage from a supermarket within the estate shows the suspected woman conversing with four children who were in the company of Baby Rehema Kerubo before she disappeared.
The woman lured the children with juice and french fries before taking the baby.
Eighteen-year-old Maureen Gesare, a mother of one is in anguish as it’s been four days since her 9-month-old and only child, Rehema Kerubo, was stolen by an unidentified woman.
Baby Rehema was with other children when a stranger approached them and lured them into a trap.
“I’ve lost my child. The children were deceived with juice and fries worth a hundred shillings. I don’t know this woman, and no one else seems to know her. I’m pleading with her to return my child," said Rehema’s Mother.
Rehema’s aunt Faith Kemunto added, "The children, who are used to spending time with her, went to eat with her. When they left, they encountered this stranger who called them over, asked for their names, and inquired whether the baby was a girl or a boy. She then asked them to escort her as she was new to Rhonda.”
CCTV footage retrieved from a supermarket in Rhonda shows the unidentified middle-aged woman, who was wearing a blue dress, speaking with the four children, one of whom carried Baby Rehema on their back.
Reports indicate that the woman convinced the children that she would buy them juice. At 5:51 p.m. on October 29, she entered the supermarket, purchased plastic cups, and placed them in a bag. This was the last time Baby Rehema was seen by her family and the children.
“They drank the juice, which had a strange taste. Then she sent the older kids to buy chips. She stayed behind with the younger ones, one carrying Baby Rehema. She instructed them to tell the others to bring not only chips but also chicken. When they returned, she had already disappeared," Rehema’s aunt stated.
The family reported the incident to the Rhonda Police Post and is pleading with detectives to track down the suspect.
“I haven’t seen the child up to this moment. I raised her, and I’m heartbroken. When she sees me, she calls me ‘Mama.’ Please help me find my granddaughter," said Rehema’s grandmother Lilian Moraa.
Rehema’s uncle Evans Onsongo added, "The child is very young and was unwell. We don’t know how she is or if she’s safe. We’re pleading with anyone who can help us bring her back.”
Nakuru West DCIO Charles Kamau stated that investigations have been launched, and the suspect believed to have taken the baby will be apprehended.
