Two individuals were arrested for being in possession of a police officer's rifle that went missing two months ago in Kamukunji, Nairobi County.

According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, Inspector Fredrick Muzungu's rifle was reported missing on August 23, 2024, shortly after he parked his car at the entrance of Jogoo Road Police Station.

The vehicle had no signs of having been broken into, raising questions as to how the criminals seized the rifle with 15 rounds of 9 mm calibre alongside a pair of handcuffs, Motorola smartphone and a kabambe phone.

The area DCIO ordered Inspector Muzungu to be arrested to aid with the investigations.

Two months later, children playing football near Railway House stumbled upon the rifle hidden under a kiosk located 900 metres from the station.

Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kamukunji and area Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene after residents reported the incident.

The public also volunteered information regarding the rifle, pointing out that two individuals namely Alex Odhiambo alias Chepukati and Amos Owino were spotted hiding something at the said kiosk.

After tracing the suspects' whereabouts, the officers managed to arrest the duo and placed them in custody.

According to the report, the suspects will be arraigned in court for the offence of possession of a firearm or ammunition.
