A section of the Nairobi Southern bypass will temporarily be closed on Sunday ahead of this year's Standard Chartered Marathon.

In a notice on Friday, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General Kung'u Ndu'ngu noted that the road will be closed from Ole Sereni to Kikuyu Town from midnight today.

"The Kenya National Highway Authority wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of the Nairobi Southern bypass from Ole Sereni to Kikuyu town on Saturday October 28 at midnight to Sunday October 29, 2023 at 2 pm," he said.

"This is to allow for the 2023 Standard Chartered Marathon to take place."

Ndun'gu however provided an alternative route that motorists should use during the temporary closure of the Southern Bypass.

"Motorists are advised to use the Mombasa Road (a8) from Ole Sereni Interchange to Uhuru Highway and Vice versa as the alternative route," he said.

"All road users are further advised to follow traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and police."

Over 20,000 participants are expected to participate in this year's marathon which will have five different races; the 21 kilometre wheel chair race, a 42 kilometre marathon, a 21 kilometre half marathon, a corporate challenge, a 10km race and a 5km family race.

The races will commence from between 5:45 am to 9:30 am.
