Nairobi: Man kills grandmother, surrenders to police

Police in Makadara,
Nairobi are holding a 24-year-old man who allegedly killed his 93-year-old
grandmother on Monday night.

Mathuku is said to have used a kitchen knife to slit the throat of his
nonagenarian kin, Esther Toni Ngati, at Mukuru-Mariguini slum in Nairobi's,
South B estate.
According
to Makadara police boss Timon Odingo, the suspect, who is said to
have a history of drug abuse, allegedly handed himself over to police at
Mariguini police post following the incident.
"The suspect
called and filed a report with the Mariguini police post. He explained that he
killed his grandmother by butchering her using a kitchen knife to cut her
throat," Odingo said as quoted by the Nation.
"He is
known to be a boxer and besides that he is a chronic drug user. However, all
this will be investigated and looked at professionally and according to the
country's laws."
Odingo further revealed that police led by Makadara DCIO
boss Felix Kithuku have since processed and documented the scene where they
found the deceased's body lying in a pool of blood.
Detectives also
recovered the murder weapon and moved the deceased's body to City Mortuary.
Kithuku, on his
part told journalists that detectives had been granted several days by the
court to complete investigations into the incident.
"The suspect is in police custody at the Industrial Area police station but we will charge him after completing the investigation," said Kithuku.
