Nairobi Majority Leader Abdi Guyo now seeks Embakasi Central MP seat
Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Hassan
Abdi Guyo now says he will seek the Embakasi Central Parliamentary seat in the
forthcoming August polls.
Guyo, who has served at City Hall for 15
years, says he has all it takes to seek promotion to the National Assembly.
He was first elected MCA in 2007 as a
21-year-old and has served for 3 terms, rising to the position of Majority Leader
in the Assembly.
"I have done by best as an MCA, I have
served my people of Matopeni Ward diligently, and I believe it's time I served
the people of the larger Embakasi Central,” Guyo said.
He was speaking during and endorsement ceremony
by Kikuyu elders under the umbrella of Kiama Kiama.
Guyo was first blessed by the Borana Council
of Elders led by their Chairman Ali Jilo before handing him over to their
Kikuyu counterparts.
"We are happy to be part of this
ceremony. Guyo has proved capable to work and that is why we have decided as
elders to bless him for the seat," Kiama Kiama Nairobi branch secretary
Josephat Mwangi said.
Mwangi said they were satisfied by the work
Guyo did during his 15-year tenure as MCA.
Elders picked from all the wards gave him
'keys' as a symbol to freely access and campaign in the entire constituency.
“We have now blessed you and given you the go
ahead to campaign and knock every door as you look for votes,” Mwangi said.
While accepting his endorsement, Guyo
expressed gratitude, saying that he will focus on improving the lives of the
constituents.
The event was attended by a host of Nairobi
MCAs, several elders from Kikuyu and Borana and residents of Embakasi Central
constituency.
The endorsement sets the stage for an epic
battle for the seat currently held by Jubilee's Benjamin Mwangi, who has
already indicated that he will be defending his seat.
