Nairobi County set for major road rehabilitation and construction to tackle congestion
The meeting held on Friday marked the launch of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and construct major roads across the city, aimed at addressing the chronic traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges that have plagued Nairobi for years.
Speaking after the meeting, Governor Sakaja stressed the importance of collaboration among the various agencies involved to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative.
“Major roads in the city are set for rehabilitation and construction. Some of these are national roads, while others fall under county jurisdiction, so close coordination between all agencies is essential,” Sakaja explained.
The roads targeted for rehabilitation and construction include key arteries such as Uhuru Highway, Juja Road, and Jogoo Road, along with critical routes in Westlands, Upper Hill, Kilimani, and Kileleshwa.
Several of these projects had been stalled under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), KURA, and the national government, but are now set to resume under the new plan.
“This collaboration between national and county agencies will ensure that road projects are executed efficiently and effectively,” Sakaja added.
The road rehabilitation initiative is expected to address long-standing issues such as potholes, poor drainage, and traffic congestion. With the comprehensive repairs and upgrades, Nairobi’s road network will be better equipped to handle the city’s growing population and increasing traffic demands, improving the overall commuting experience for residents and businesses alike.
