Nairobi County petitions EACC to probe transactions by fired County Attorney Lydia Kwamboka

Lydia Kwamboka
In a letter to the EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, the petitioner, the Nairobi County notes that despite being impeached by the County Assembly sometime in 2021, Kwamboka continued to be in office illegally and has continued perpetrating questionable payments of legal fees.
"As you might be aware, the impeachment of Lydia Kwamboka stemmed from an investigation by the committee which had been probing a petition by one JOHN MARK ODHIAMBO who sought for her removal onbehalf of Kenyan citizens and tax payers and which was ratified by the County Assembly on 27th July 2021," reads the letter.
"In the said petition, Mr. Odhiambo claimed that Kwamboka was illegally in office since her contract lapsed in 2018 while she was serving suspension under the former Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and upon return, her contract was renewed without vetting," the letter further reads.
The county wants the anti-graft commission to launch extensive investigations on the pre-qualification of a law firm that was paid Ksh.300 million in legal fees following approval by Kwamboka.
"It is manifestly clear that arising from the deliberations of the County Assembly, the said Lydia Kwamboka has been irregularly in office and undertaking business in clear contravention of the law and should be surcharged for earning public tax payers’ money fraudulently and I urge your office to take urgent action on such serious transgressions of the law," reads the letter.
The termination of Kwamboka's contract earlier this week came amid an ongoing probe on controversial payments at City Hall.
In the letter to Kwamboka, Governor Sakaja directed her to hand over to Christine Ireri.
