Nairobi County Gov’t vows disciplinary action against 'kanjo' taken on dramatic drive in viral video
The Nairobi County Government has vowed to
take action against a male officer involved in a scuffle with a female motorist
after he allegedly entered her vehicle without her consent, as captured in a now
viral video.
In
response to the incident, which has since caused public uproar with a majority
of Kenyans condemning city askaris for harassment, County Secretary Patrick
Analo directed blame to both the woman as well as the officer.
Despite
condemning the acts of the county officer, Mr. Analo argued that the woman, a
popular Tiktoker who has since been identified as Ntazola Gloria, ought to have
driven the car to a police station or the county offices to report the alleged
offence.
“It
is also wrong to detain somebody just because he illegally got into your car.
Rush with him or her to the nearest police station. So the two of them are in
the wrong,” Mr. Analo told the Nation.
The
County Secretary said his office has since enquired about a report regarding the
incident and appropriate action would be taken against the city officer after
the conclusion of investigations.
“There
is a report I’m expecting from that officer and his supervisors which will
inform the disciplinary action to be taken. He needs to explain to us under
what circumstances he entered that car,” stated Mr. Analo.
In
the video which has since been shared widely across social media platforms, Ntazola is heard
perilously threatening to drive the officer to Ngong, who she
claims forced himself into her car for allegedly violating parking rules.
Ntazola
is then seen driving along the Nairobi Expressway as she questions the askari
while at the same time swearing at him, calling him names and telling him that
she was going to drive him around all day in a bid to teach him a lesson.
"Mbona
mnakuwanga hivo? Hiyo ilikuwa kitu ya kunikalia kwa gari yangu? Tunaenda na
wewe mahali naenda," she’s heard telling him amid swears.
"Nakupeleka
hadi kwangu saa hii, hii gari hautoki ndani. Mbona unaingia kwa gari yangu?
Wewe ni traffic police? Mnasumbua Wakenya, watu wako na stress. Nakupeleka hadi
Ngong town!"
Speaking
after the incident, Ntazola said she had driven the county office to Kitengela
and left him there.
