The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has revealed that about 10 roads connecting major highways in Nairobi will be closed during the weekend to pave way for the Nairobi City Marathon slated for Sunday.

KENHA, in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, announced that the closure would take place beginning Friday through to Sunday.

The authority also said this would affect the Nairobi Expressway, Waiyaki Way, Thika Superhighway and Mombasa Road towards the city’s Central Business District (CBD).

On Friday, the roads to be closed include Aerodrome Road which cuts on the Upper side of the Nyayo National Stadium connecting to Upper Hill starting at 10pm to Sunday at 6pm.

A section of the Expressway between James Gichuru and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be impassable on both sides starting from Saturday at 10pm through to Sunday at 4pm.

The other region between James Gichuru and the entrance of the Expressway will also be shut on both lanes on Sunday from 12am up to 2pm the same day.

The authority further notes that Uhuru Highway, along Mombasa Road, would also be closed at the section between Haile Selassie Roundabout and Capital Centre.

On the same route, the crossing along Thika Superhighway’s Exit A2 towards Uhuru Highway in the Mombasa Road direction would be shut as well.

In the CBD area, Harry Thuku Road, University Way (between Highway Roundabout and Slip Road) and Koinange Street (between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue) will also be impassable from Sunday midnight up to 2pm.

Consequently, the Kenyatta Avenue section between Koinange Street and Moi Avenue would be closed at similar timelines.

KeNHA has therefore urged motorists and all road users to use alternative roads to avoid inconveniences.

The annual Nairobi Marathon is a partnership between key stakeholders among them Royal Media Services, KCB, and Nairobi City Council among others.
