Nairobi businessman charged over conspiracy to defraud Impala Reel Company Ksh.50M
A Nairobi businessman has been arraigned for conspiring to defraud Impala Reel Company Limited of Ksh.50 million.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, the accused, Elius Kemboi Korir, was also charged with receiving goods worth Ksh.8 million from the company while pretending he had a genuine supply contract.
During the hearing, Kemboi pleaded not
guilty to charges levelled against him.
The prosecution, which has lined up three witnesses in the case, applied to deny him bail arguing that he
was a flight risk.
“He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Prosecution Counsel James Gachoka asked the court not to grant him bail on grounds
that he is a flight risk,” the Office Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP)
said in a statement.
Kemboi’s arraignment comes six months after
the authorities began trailing him.
DPP says that it took the intervention of a highly placed multi-agency operation to nab Kemboi. He was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while attempting to flee the country.
