NACADA begins investigations on alleged fentanyl abuse in Mombasa
The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has begun investigations into reports on fentanyl abuse in Mombasa County.
On Tuesday, NACADA officials led by CEO John Muteti visited Mombasa and collected samples for further analysis.
“Most of these drugs are prescriptions that could be leaking from hospitals. We want to get concrete information to give the public,” Muteti said.
“We are working with a team from the government chemist and Pharmacies and Poisons Board to get enough information,” added the NACADA boss.
The investigations on the samples are expected to take fourteen days.
Additionally, NACADA said they are yet to ascertain the authenticity of video clips that made rounds on social media nearly a month ago.
In the videos, people that were said to have consumed fentanyl appeared drowsy.
