Mystery of Form One student’s death at Kilungu Boys High School
At
the Kilungu Level Three Hospital, the family of Emmanuel Kirima is in a sombre
mood, confused and angry.
The
news of the death of their 15-year-old son is yet to sink in. Emmanuel had just
joined Kilungu Boys High School as a Form One student on January 15 and ten
days later, his parents received a call from the school management to come to
Kilungu mortuary and identify the body of their kin.
The
parents say they are devasted by the news and the fact that the matter
concerning their son's health might have been handled poorly. At first, the
family was told that Emmanuel was rushed to hospital after complaining of a
stomach ache.
But
upon inspecting Emmanuel's body the family says facial injuries were visible,
especially on his forehead. The school has declined to inform the family
whether he was injured through a fight, a fall or an act of bullying before
being taken to hospital.
Citizen
TV has since established that the 15-year-old boy was first rushed to a private
hospital before being taken to Kilungu Level Three Hospital where he was
pronounced dead.
Kilungu
Boys High School headteacher Goeffrey Muema says they did what the school
administration does when a student falls ill. He says they were equally shocked
when the hospital informed the school administration that the boy had lost his
life.
The
family has opted to transfer the body to Chiromo mortuary where a post-mortem
will be conducted Monday to ascertain the cause of death.
Detectives have in the meantime begun investigations into the cause of the death.
