A teacher from Mwingi, Kitui County, is counting losses after his house was burnt down in what is suspected to be arson.

Silvester Mwendwa was away with his wife on a teaching assignment at a distant school when he received news of the incident from a neighbour in the middle of the night.

When he returned, he found his home surrounded by neighbours who could do nothing but stand by watching in shock as the smoke billowed.

Police officers were notified of the incident and have since launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire and bring to book anyone responsible.

Mr. Mwendwa told Citizen Digital that he shared with the area Assistant Chief the name of a suspect he believes to have been behind the fire, however lamenting that the person was yet to even be brought in for questioning.

According to Assistant Chief Jamleck Mbai, police officers are following crucial leads that they believe will enable them reach a logical conclusion and make arrests, if/where necessary.

With investigations still ongoing, Mr. Mwendwa remains hopeful that justice will prevail, despite him and his spouse being left helpless and homeless at the moment.
