Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has defended President William Ruto’s decision to sack Justin
Muturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
President Ruto sacked Muturi on Wednesday, nominating Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Kiringa
Ruku to replace him, after Muturi emerged as a thorn in his flesh.
The bone of contention
between the two centred around fiery remarks Muturi made against the State
over the abductions and killings of Gen Z protesters in June and December 2024,
incidents in which his son was also a victim.
Speaking at the Ewaso
Ngiro Tannery and Leather Factory, in Narok County on Thursday, Mwaura cautioned that civil
servants must respect the President and desist from openly criticizing the Executive
they serve in, a remark seemingly directed at Muturi.
Mwaura, while noting that
there are casualties in all wars, further defended the government in the Haiti
deployment mission, assuring families of police officers who have died on duty
that the state would compensate them accordingly.
“Ni vizuri kusema katika
operesheni yoyote kutakuwa na maafa. Yale maafa yametendeka sio kama yalivyotarajiwa.
Tunadhibiti sio polisi wetu wengi ambao wameaga na wale wameaga tunasema pole
kwa sababu si jambo tunafurahi hata kidogo,” Mwaura said.
“Wale ambao wameathiriwa….zile
familia, tunazishugulikia na wanahudumiwa ipasavyo na watagharamiwa ipasavyo.”
Further, Mwaura reaffirmed the Government's commitment
to restoring peace in the North Rift, a region plagued by insecurity due to
persistent bandit attacks.
He also urged local politicians to foster a culture of
peace and support state-driven development initiatives, emphasizing the
importance of unity and collaboration for lasting stability.
“Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen was in the North Rift
yesterday and we want to urge political leaders to join hands with the
government so that we can find a lasting solution,” he said.
“Most of the time, clashes in the region occur due to the
lack of development projects. However, since we introduced development
initiatives, the clashes have been steadily declining.”
