Muturi's corruption claims against Ruto should be taken seriously, not dismissed - MP Mukunji

Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji in an interview with Citizen TV on April 18, 2024.

Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has called for an expeditious probe into the corruption allegations made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi against President William Ruto.

This is after Muturi alleged that Ruto secretly conducts corrupt deals worth billions.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, MP Mukunji noted that legislators have slept on the job by ignoring Muturi's claims.

He added that the Legislature should not shy away from oversighting the Executive and grill Muturi to bring the cat out of the bag and take lawful action against Ruto if found guilty.

"From here, JB Muturi needs to say more, then we need to do what we call inquiries. He needs to be put on the dock, there is a need to investigate and take allegations of corruption seriously," Mukunji noted.

"I don't believe it is right to just say we have dismissed what Muturi has said. Sometimes we are taking for granted matters that are very serious in this country."

Shortly after being fired from Cabinet on March 26, Muturi told NTV that Ruto attempted to arm-twist him to hurriedly sign a Ksh.129 billion deal with Russian Oligarchs on planting trees.

The former CS explained that the deal would have contravened the law as such funds must go through the Treasury and should not be channeled directly to a Ministry.

"I was invited to go to COP 28 in Dubai, which ended up in the Adani Deal about the airport. During that time, some Russian oligarchs wanted to invest Ksh.129 billion in Kenya. I landed in Dubai and received a phone call from Ruto, who told me that the Russians were waiting at the airport and I needed to sign the documents. I declined, saying I needed to review the documents in the office," he stated.

He further revealed that he could provide the supporting documents to back his allegations.

Muturi CS refuted claims that he has a personal vendetta against the current regime despite his bitter fallout with President Ruto's administration.
