Museveni: I have my cows, I'm not getting anything from government

Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, has claimed he is content with his cows at home and has no desire for power.

He made this statement while supporting Samuel Engola at a political rally. Samuel Engola is running for office in the Oyam North by-election under the banner of his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The position fell vacant after the death of Charles Engola who was shot dead by his bodyguard on May 2, 2023.

Museveni asserted that he has never been motivated by gaining favor with the government during his political conflict with previous leaders to lobby for the election of a party member.

"...have got everything in my home. I have my cows and I'm not getting anything from the government. Even when we were fighting Idi Amin, we were not looking for anything personal," he said as quoted by Daily Monitor.

He further stated that his party's interest is to serve the people of Uganda and those of Oyam District, and will be committed to continue working on the reforms the late Egola had started off.

"NRM politics is a politics of science, not guesswork. From the beginning we were telling you we are here for your good," said Museveni.

"And that's what Engola fought for. Once you get peace then the next thing you need is leaders. Now leaders are very crucial. If you don't have leaders, where do you go?"

The by-election is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Thursday, June 6.
