#MurderForProfit: Court now fines Evans Kasyoki Ksh.3M
Evans Kasyoki, the man who was accused of killing his nephew to get insurance will now have to part with Ksh.3million or a surety of similar amount.
Justice George Odunga ordered that in the event Kasyoki fails to raise the amount, he is to stay in custody until October 29.
He was charged with killing his 27-year-old nephew Eric Makau Musyoka for Ksh.9million insurance.
An expose aired on Citizen TV titled #MurderForProfit led to his arrest at the Thika Road Mall (TRM) after members of the public spotted him.
The deceased Makau, was jobless and had two life insurance policies, one worth Ksh.1million with Jubilee Insurance and the other worth Ksh.8million.
Evans Kasyoki, according to the expose, took the insurance using the nephew’s name and listed himself as the beneficiary.
The High Court in Machakos later ordered that Kasyoki undergo a mental examination before he is charged.
Deputy Register Kipchumba Kenei directed that Kasyoki be taken to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for examination before taking plea before the court.
