As the African Union Commission (AUC) election of the
Commissioners, and Chairperson position comes to the homestretch, Musalia
Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign &
Diaspora Affairs, today leaves for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to lead the
last-minute campaigns for Raila Odinga’s Chair bid on February 12-17, 2025.
Raila’s victory as the Chairperson of the AUC will leverage
Kenya’s position in the continent, and put a Kenyan at the helm of the key decision
making in the continent where he will be the amplifying voice and bargaining
power of Africa.
Under his tenure, Raila’s agenda will be to scale up efforts
to, bridge the infrastructural development gap, integration, economic
transformation, enhancing intra Africa trade through African Continental Free
Trade Area (ACFTA), financial independence, agricultural transformation,
climate action, peace security, youth empowerment, and gender equity &
equality in the continent.
During the visit to Addis, Mudavadi will attend African
Union’s (AU) 46th Session of the Executive Council to be held on 12th and 14th
February, 2025 at the level of Foreign Ministers of AU Member States where they
will vote the AUC commissioners.
The 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, will
precede the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and
Government of African Union Summit themed: “Justice for Africans and People of
African Descent Through Reparations,” to be attended by President William Ruto.
Other key meetings Mudavadi will attend include; African Union
Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (AU CEVAWG), Changing the
story on Malaria: A big push to deliver a Malaria-free Africa, High-Level event
on Immunization Themed “Rearming Africa’s Commitment to Immunization alongside
other sideline events.
He will also accompany President Ruto when the Head of State
chairs the meeting of the Committee of the African Heads of State and
Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), and also when he gives a progress
report to the Assembly on the AU Institutional Reforms as the Champion on the
Institutional Reforms of the AU.
