Mudavadi dismisses claims that RSF formed parallel gov't in Nairobi

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims that Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) formed a parallel government following meetings held in Nairobi in February 2025.

In a statement on the quarterly diplomatic briefings, Mudavadi explained that Kenya's decision to host the RSF leaders was in line with its role to foster regional peace and unity.

He added that the meeting did not only involve RSF leaders but also special envoys, civil society, political parties and representatives of local communities who agreed on a unified structure that helps to restore peace in Sudan.

The CS clarified that Kenya was not part of the discussions as the meetings were an affair of the Sudanese people.

"It is important at this juncture to reiterate that no parallel government for Sudan was formed in Nairobi. Kenya abhors the balkanization of sovereign states and supports a unified Sudan for the people of the Sudan," he said.

"Notably, the Nairobi meeting was not an RSF-only conference, there were more than 24 political and civilian organizations reflecting the wide diversity and hunger for peace in the Sudan beyond a contestation between Sudanese Armed Forces (SA)F and RSF."

Kenya had received backlash from the Sudanese government for hosting the RSF leaders in Nairobi. Last month, Sudan's Ministry of Trade and Supply suspended all imports from Kenya indefinitely, citing the need to protect its national interests and security concerns.

The Sudanese government and RSF forces have been fighting for control of the nation since April 2023 in a war that has claimed thousands of lives.

The war has since divided the country, with the Sudanese army now controlling the Eastern and Northern regions while the RSF dominates the Western and larger parts of the South.

Last month, the Sudanese army seized Khartoum from the RSF, following a two-year battle for the capital.
