Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has defended the controversial Finance Bill 2024 which has triggered countrywide protests.

Speaking in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County on Friday, Mudavadi said the government must find ways to raise taxes to pay the huge debts and develop the country.

He compared rejecting the Finance Bill to passing a vote of no confidence towards the government of the day.

"Finance Bill ndiyo msingi wa serikali. Hii bill ndiyo mzizi wa serikali. Kwa kimataifa Finance Bill ikishindwa, the net effect is serikali imeng'olewa mamlakani, it is equal to a vote of no confidence," Mudavadi stated.

"It is no joke. Siyo mambo ya kawaida. Hawa jamaa wanaskuma tuangushe Finance Bill, the next thing watasema that was a vote of no confidence, therefore the government must go home and we have fresh elections."

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah lashed at one of the leaders in government whom he said is against the bill and intends to see the government fail in delivering its pledges to Kenyans.

He at the same time called upon leaders not to lie to Kenyans.

"Ni vizuri kuelimisha watu juu ya Finance Bill kwa kuwa nimeona kwa mtandao watu wanaenezewa porojo mingi, mambo ambayo haiko kwa Finance Bill. Wengine wanasema matibabu ya cancer unalipa Finance Bill, nashangaa ni Finance Bill gani wanasoma. Nilipiga yes Finance Bill na niliongoza MPs 204 kupiga yes," Ichung'wah remarked.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma, Matuga MP Tandaza also defended the move to pass the bill.

However, Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi warned the leaders to be wary about the rise of the youth who blamed the government for the unemployment crisis.
