Mudavadi calls on COMESA member states to support Raila's AUC candidacy

Mudavadi described Raila as the right leader to guide Africa towards peace, integration, and prosperity.

Speaking when he attended the 19th COMESA Peace and Security Committee meeting, Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to Odinga’s candidacy, describing him as a democrat, elder, and a distinguished statesman who has significantly contributed to the continent.

“Raila Odinga possesses outstanding diplomatic and advocacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage global, continental, and regional leaders to advance Africa’s interests,” Mudavadi said.

He emphasized Odinga’s deep-rooted Pan-Africanism, highlighting his focus on utilizing Africa’s resources to foster unity, regional integration, and shared prosperity.

Mudavadi went on to highlight Odinga’s role as AU High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa from 2018 to 2023, where he successfully mobilized political support for key infrastructure projects under the Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).

He also noted Odinga’s leadership as Kenya's Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, where he was instrumental in implementing constitutional reforms, driving economic growth, and advancing key socio-political changes.

With the AUC elections set for February 2025, Mudavadi urged COMESA member states to throw their weight behind Odinga, praising his Pan-Africanist vision, transformative leadership, and broad diplomatic experience. “Eastern Africa’s time has come, and Raila Odinga is the ideal candidate to lead the continent into a future of peace, security, and prosperity,” Mudavadi stated.

Mudavadi highlighted that COMESA, with its 19 member states, plays a vital role in promoting economic integration and cooperation across the region.

The support from this regional bloc is crucial for advancing Odinga’s candidacy. A unified front from COMESA can amplify Africa’s voice on the global stage and foster sustainable development, regional stability, and enhanced prosperity across the continent.

As one of Africa's largest regional economic communities, COMESA works to create a seamless market for goods and services, thereby boosting trade and investment opportunities among its members.
