Mt.Kenya East leaders unite behind Kindiki, push for regional development

In a Monday meeting, the leaders declared their confidence in Kindiki’s leadership, affirming that his role would be pivotal in driving the region’s development agenda.

“We have unanimously agreed that Prof. Kithure Kindiki will serve as the official link between Mount Kenya East and the executive,” the leaders said in a joint statement.

 “Through his leadership, we are confident that the region’s priorities will be effectively communicated, and our development goals achieved.”

The leaders expressed their gratitude to President William Ruto for appointing three key figures from the region—Hon. Justin Muturi, Prof. Kindiki, and Eng. Eric Mugaa—as Cabinet Secretaries. 

They emphasized that these appointments reflect the trust placed in Mount Kenya East by the national government and a recognition of the region’s growing influence in national matters.

The meeting, seen as a critical turning point for the region, was focused on addressing the socioeconomic and political needs of Mount Kenya East, which has historically been overlooked. 

The leaders pledged to push for the completion of key infrastructure projects, including roads, water supply, and electrification programs, that have remained unfinished since the previous administration.

“These projects are vital for the prosperity and well-being of our people,” the statement continued. “We urge the national government to prioritize their completion and ensure that our region continues to receive the attention it deserves.”

The leaders further highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong and consistent dialogue with the national government to ensure that Mount Kenya East’s voice remains central in shaping Kenya’s political and development agenda. 

With a significant voting bloc, the region's leaders reminded the government that their contribution to national politics must be matched by tangible benefits for their constituents.

“We hold significant political weight, and our contribution to the national vote is undeniable. As we continue to support and oversight the government, we expect to see more development initiatives reflecting our influence,” they said.

Employment opportunities were also addressed, with the leaders thanking President Ruto for the many job opportunities already extended to the region. 

They called for even more employment openings to be directed toward their people as part of the broader development agenda.
