Mt Kenya political temperatures rise as 69 MPs declare support for CS Kindiki

Forty legislators from Mt. Kenya West and the diaspora signed the declaration, known as the 'Nyahururu Declaration.'

Just days after elected members of Parliament from Mt. Kenya East pledged their support for Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as their key representative to the national executive, the Mt. Kenya and Diaspora Parliamentary Leaders Forum has officially endorsed Kindiki as their main liaison.

This decision, reflecting the unfolding political intrigues within the Mt. Kenya region, was announced on Thursday during a meeting in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.

Forty legislators from Mt. Kenya West and the diaspora signed the declaration, known as the 'Nyahururu Declaration, bringing the total number of legislators supporting CS Kindiki to 69.

This endorsement sets the stage for a potential political clash between CS Kindiki and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the control of Central region politics.

According to the MPs forum's decision aligns with their broader strategy to streamline efforts and effectively address developmental priorities.

The political caucus consisting of elected leaders from various constituencies in Mt. Kenya and the diaspora, expressed their commitment to collaborating closely with Prof. Kindiki to advance the region's legislative and developmental agendas.

In their statement, the forum emphasized the crucial role CS Kindiki will play in creating a direct link between parliamentary leaders and the executive branch.

This liaison is expected to enhance the coordination of national government functions and address the developmental needs of the Mt. Kenya region and its diaspora.

"Given the prevailing state of affairs and the urgency of the mission ahead, there is a need for a link that will create a nexus between us and the National Executive on development matters," the legislators stated.

"Accordingly, we, as the elected leaders from this region and its diaspora, unanimously resolve that our link to the National Government be the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whose responsibilities include the coordination of National Government functions across the country."
