MPs vet Sudan, Djibouti ambassadorial nominees

George Macgoye, nominated ambassador to Djibouti appears before parliament for vetting.

The vetting of ambassadors who were recently appointed by President Ruto, and those redeployed to other missions is ongoing. 

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations, under the leadership of Belgut MP Nelson Koech, on Monday vetted Jeremy Laibuttah (Sudan) and George Macgoye (Djibouti). 

Appearing before the committee on Monday, Laibuttah expressed confidence in his role, saying he has what it takes to be an ambassador.

"I am involved in many issues that need to resolve conflicts and the issue in Sudan currently, there are hostilities yes, but as a Kenyan diplomat, together with the others, I am ready to go there and understand those issues,” he said.

Laibuttah credited his prior experience as the First Secretary at the Kenyan High Commission in London from 2009 to 2013 for equipping him with essential diplomatic skills.

He also mentioned his role as the Regional Intelligence Coordinator (RIC) in the Rift Valley, where he gained firsthand experience in conflict resolution.

Meanwhile, Macgoye, similarly faced the approval hearing and expressed his enthusiasm for the new role.

Macgoye additionally disclosed that his approximate net worth is Ksh.110 million.

The process began on October 25 and is scheduled to conclude on November 2.

Also scheduled to appear in parliament on Monday are Joyce Khasimwa Mmaitsi (Angola) and Iringo Kubai (Somalia).


The nominations and redeployments were made by President William Ruto in his first cabinet reshuffle since taking office, aiming to enhance Kenya's diplomatic presence and strategic positioning.
