MPs Owino, Odege endorse impeachment motion against DP Gachagua
Awendo Member
of Parliament Walter Owino and his Nyatike counterpart Tom Odege have supported
the looming impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The two Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM) party members said that DP Gachagua has been acting as
a regional leader and not a national leader as expected by law.
MP Owino said
he has appended his signature to the ouster motion against Gachagua and he will
also vote for his removal when the motion is brought before the National Assembly.
The
legislators said they want a deputy president who is willing to serve all
Kenyans and represent all regions equally.
On his part, MP Odege said that Gachagua has for
a very long time treated Kenyans in other regions with a lot of contempt and he
will vote for his ouster on those grounds.
Gachagua's
fate hangs in the balance as he awaits a pending impeachment motion expected to
be presented before the Legislation House on Tuesday.
He has
been accused of violating Article 10 of the Constitution
as his accusers argue that his public utterances have been inciteful, reckless
inflammatory and capable of stirring ethnic hatred.
Gachagua has also been put on the hot
seat for reportedly favouring his backyard, the Mt. Kenya region while
neglecting other regions.
If the motion is supported by 233 MPs, National
Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula will communicate the resolution within two
days to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi for action.
