Mpox: One more case confirmed in Uasin Gishu as Kenya's tally rises to 14

The Ministry of Health has announced one more confirmed case of Mpox in the country, taking the total number of cases recorded so far to 14.

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa, in a statement released on Thursday, said the case was recorded in Uasin Gishu County.

The cases are distributed as follows: Nakuru (2), Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Taita Taveta (I). Busia (1), Nairobi (I), Mombasa (I), Makueni ( I), Kericho (I), Kilifi (I), and Uasin Gishu (I).

CS Barasa noted that, of the confirmed cases, eight have fully recovered and five individuals are undergoing treatment.

She also stated that that the number of deaths still remain at one, which occurred on October 11, 2024 from a patient who previously tested positive for Mpox and later recovered.

“Contact tracing efforts remain a priority. Out of 68 listed contacts, 61 have completed the required 2I-day follow-up, with three testing positive for Mpox. At our Points of Entry (POEs), 30,237 travelers have been screened in the last 24 hours. Cumulatively, 1,362,657 travelers have been screened across 26 POEs since the onset of the outbreak,” said the CS.

“The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) continues to process samples swiftly. A total of 244 samples have been tested, of which 14 have been confirmed positive, 227 have tested negative, and 3 are undergoing testing.”
