The Ministry of Health has confirmed five new Mpox cases this week, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 28 in 12 counties.

According to a Ministry of Health statement issued on Tuesday, the most recent cases were recorded in Nakuru (3) and Mombasa (2), which also have the highest cumulative cases; 9 and 6, respectively.

Other counties that have confirmed cases are Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Nairobi (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Kiambu (1), Makueni (1), Kericho (1), Uasin Gishu (1), and Kilifi (1).

According to the Health Ministry, eight people are receiving medical attention, 17 have fully recovered, two are in self-isolation, and one death has occurred.

The Ministry has also identified 204 contacts for confirmed cases, with 147 having completed the required 21-day follow-up period.

Seven of the identified contacts tested positive for Mpox, while 50 are still under active surveillance.

Since the disease's outbreak in July 2024, 2,207,715 passengers have been screened at various points of entry.

According to the Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has received 322 samples for testing, with 28 positive, 292 negative, and two pending results.

The Ministry of Health has urged county governments and other stakeholders to raise public awareness about Mpox and ensure compliance with preventive measures.

These include avoiding close contact with suspected cases or their belongings, not sharing personal items, limiting the number of sexual partners, maintaining good hygiene through regular handwashing or the use of hand sanitiser, and promptly reporting symptoms to health facilities.

To avoid further transmission, infected individuals should isolate themselves until they have fully recovered.
