National Assembly Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro has admitted that the national government has deployed General Service Unit (GSU) officers to Kisii County, claiming that the move is aimed at restoring order amid the chaos allegedly caused by Governor Simba Arati.

Osoro blasted Arati in an interview with a local media outlet for allegedly holding the county hostage and running a militia under the guise of bodaboda riders, endangering the security of Kisii residents.

The South Mugirango MP also accused the governor of focusing on politicking and plundering county resources, challenging him to show what he did with the Ksh13 billion the county allegedly received from the national government.

"You are using goons in the name of bodaboda riders to harass and intimidate those you believe are not supporting you. You are preventing genuine bodaboda riders from accessing Kisii town in the name of protecting your goons. We cannot sit back and allow that to happen. We have a government that must protect its people," Osoro said.

The MP went on to say that he has received information that Arati intends to sponsor demonstrations in Kisii town this week, and that more GSU officers are being deployed to protect people and property.

"We've heard what you are planning to do. Let me tell you my brother, we won't allow any demonstrations when our students are sitting for their exams. We will send in more GSU officers and make sure that nothing like that happens. You cannot play with the government," Osoro warned.

The MP also warned the governor that performing official count duties from his home is illegal and should be stopped immediately.

Osoro said Arati should concentrate on service delivery to the people, and account for the allocation the county received.

His comments come after GSU officers barricaded Arati's office at Gusii Stadium, preventing him from entering.

Arati claimed the officers were sent to intimidate him and his supporters, and he warned that the move would set a bad precedent.
