MP Savula: Luhya community will produce President Kenyatta’s successor
A section of politicians from Western Kenya, led by MPs Ayub Savula (Lugari) and Tindi Mwale (Butere), have expressed optimism that the Luhya community will produce President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor come 2022.
Speaking on Thursday at Buchenya grounds in Butere, Kakamega County, the MPs claimed the Luhya nation boasts of the highest number of people in Kenya hence is capable of delivering a win in the next election cycle.
“The recent census revealed that the Luhyas are the majority in the country, there is no reason we should not start a grand march to State House,” said Savula.
The Lugari legislator added that they are planning a major meeting with all the MPs from Western Kenya to work on a formula aimed towards clinching the top seat.
According to Savula, they will then have the same meetings with Senators and Governors from the region before forging a political alliance ahead of the 2022 General Election.
“Whoever stands a better chance of becoming president, will be granted support in seeking ascension to State House,” added Savula.
Those presently seen as forerunners for the top seat from the region include Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula as well as Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
