MP Rosa Buyu lashes at government over confusion in University funding
Speaking on Monday while issuing bursaries worth Ksh.17.2 million at Ojolla Primary School, Buyu pointed out that the new University funding model is marred with confusion.
She said the model might lock out needy students from accessing higher education, considering the harsh economic times that have seen families dig deeper to afford basic needs.
“When you get to University there is too much confusion with KUCCPS. We are going to end up losing good grades and opportunities,” said the MP.
Buyu said there is more confusion with seeking assistance as parents and students do not know how to apply for funding.
“Parents do not know who is going to qualify or what makes them qualify for funding. Government needs to step up,” she added.
Buyu also argued that the government is yet to streamline learning under the CBC curriculum as Junior Secondary Schools are not equipped with the necessary infrastructure to support it.
She said most public schools in rural areas have been left to wait on CDFs, to set up and equip laboratories in order to facilitate the teaching of practical subjects contained under the CBC.
