MP Nelson Koech -Parliament will ensure El Nino preparation funds are used appropriately
In his view, MP Koech said that parliament will ensure that the estimated Ksh.10 billion disbursed to counties to mitigate the predicted rains will be put to good use.
"It is important to make sure that there was prudent use of those resources because I know there were people who were itching to tap on that money. We as MPs are going to oversight to make sure that any money," he said.
The legislator was speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Monday.
He further intimated that he had questions on Kenya Met's prediction, arguing that nothing was pointing in the direction of a possible weather crisis.
"I had personally cursed out the predictions that had been given, I was abit skeptical. I don't know where the Kenya MET got the information from. I have tried to look at all the science involved and I couldn't find anything that could point towards that end," he said.
He however noted that it is important as a country to always prepare for changes in weather patterns to help cushion citizens from the aftermath.
President William Ruto on Sunday revealed that the country will not experience the rains as the department scaled it down to short rains.
The weatherman had warned that El Nino will hit the country from mid-October to December, before clarifying that the rains will be significant, but not El Nino.
Nairobi County had already announced a plan to procure motor boats, inflatable water rafts, and boats to mitigate potential flood-related disasters.
